THE DISAPPEARANCE OF CHARLES HORVATH-ALLAN (SEASON FINALE, PART 3)
In our three-part season finale miniseries, we explore cases of travellers who go missing while abroad.
In the third and final part, we go back to the summer of 1989, when 20-year-old Charles Horvath-Allan embarked on what was meant to be a life-changing trip across Canada. Drawn to the freedom of the road, he eventually made his way to Kelowna, British Columbia where he settled into the city’s backpacker scene—taking on odd jobs and meeting fellow travelers.
Then, without warning, he disappeared. Charles was last known to be staying at the "Tiny Tent Town" campground, surrounded by a transient community where people came and went without much trace.
Over time, troubling questions began to surface. Who did Charles meet in those final days? Did he cross paths with someone dangerous? And how could someone vanish so completely without any explanation?
For decades, the case has remained unsolved—but his mother never stopped searching. Her determination would eventually uncover overlooked details and reignite hope for answers.
In this episode, we retrace Charles’ final known movements, examine the theories, and explore a disappearance that continues to raise more questions than answers over 30 years later.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300, or CRIME STOPPERS at 1-800-222-8477.
